Togle

Togle is a relatively rare word in the English language, but the term does carry many meanings. It is both a verb and a noun, and carries different connotations in different contexts. Typically, the term is used when referring to an item that can be toggled. It is important to keep in mind that once an item is toggled, it is not editable and has no “undo” option.

The word togle was first used as a fastener in the 18th century. These days, it primarily refers to an object that can be toggled between different states, such as an on/off switch. It can also refer to a device that allows you to switch between multiple settings with one click.

Toggling is used in hardware as well as software. For example, in a computer, a toggle can be a keyboard key. It can turn on or off specific functions, such as Caps Lock or Num Lock. In software, toggle switches can be found in settings menus and options screens. Users can toggle items on/off by clicking a button or pressing a simple combination of keys.

Toggle buttons contain a text label and a filled container. To use a toggle button, the activity hosting layout must implement an onClick event handler. Toggling buttons may be declared as groups or as individual items. This gives developers the flexibility to control how they behave at runtime.
