Apart from that, community training in the form of evacuation simulations also supports disaster preparedness. Building earthquake-resistant infrastructure is a preventive measure that should not be ignored. Countries such as Japan have implemented strict building regulations that require architects and engineers to take the potential for earthquakes into account when designing buildings. Investments in research on soil behavior and earthquake impacts will also enrich the database needed for urban planning and regional development. From an economic perspective, recovery after an earthquake requires a long-term strategy. Recovery programs must involve the regeneration of the local social and economic climate.
