Slot

A slot is a hollow depression or opening in a structure that receives something sliding into it. The word has several meanings, including job opening, assignment, and morpheme sequence. In the context of sports, the word has several usages, ranging from an interior opening of a copy desk to a position within a Gazette. A slot also has a figurative meaning, such as a scoring area for a football game.

A slot is a word or phrase that maps to a specific entity value. For example, the entity value of New York might have several synonyms: Big Apple, NYC, and so on. If you specify NYC when mapping an entity value, the system will understand that you mean New York, and insert the word or phrase into the slot. The system also allows you to insert multiple synonyms, such as Big Apple, by clicking on the field and pressing Enter. You can also remove or edit slots from the Slots tab.

Another name for a slot is an expansion slot. Depending on the manufacturer, slots can be PCI, AGP, or ISA. There is also a special memory slot. A motherboard’s specification will outline the specific types of slots available for installation. If you are unsure about what a particular expansion slot is, check out the motherboard’s description. You’ll find that it’s very easy to identify one if you’re unfamiliar with it.
