What is a Slot?
The slot is a critical area on the ice. A player who is able to get his shot to fall in the slot has a high chance of scoring without a deflection. The low position of the slot allows for a straight-on view of the net and a wrist shot is easier to make from there. A small winger can also benefit from a slot because defenders will lay big hits on him in the faceoff circle.
SLOT is a late 14c. word that originally referred to a hollow depression in the throat above the breastbone. Its origins are uncertain; the word may derive from the Old Norse word slod. The word was first recorded in the 1520s, while the word slot machine was first used in 1888. SLOTs can be either girls or boys. The word can also be a synonym of “deer track” because a bloodhound follows a wounded deer’s slot to its destination.
The v-slot has an alias of #, which means it can be replaced with the string “data”. Similarly, the alias of a scoped slot can be changed to something like “default” or #default=”data”.
